I've learned that especially with sky photos the more sky the better, sometimes only with the smallest hint of the landscape below.
When we arrived in Montalcino last October 3rd we had to self quarantine for 14 days. Fall light is always some of the most beautiful in Tuscany, and last October was no exception. We were treated to some amazing evening cloud displays. This photo was made as the sun was setting over the mountains to the west of Montalcino. Just on the other side of those mountains is the Mediterranean Sea so it often creates beautiful sunset colors. But the real magic here is having the photo be mostly of the sky with just a small slice of landscape which included Montalcino's Duomo in the lower right corner just as it was receiving the very last rays of direct sunlight. Believe it or not this is the view from our bedroom. So you can see why fourteen days of quarantine wasn't such a bad deal at all.
